El año pasado empezamos una actividad muy interesante: los estudiantes que estaban aprendiendo a tocar un instrumento en el Conservatorio o en escuelas de música explicaban su instrumento, cómo funcionaba y tocaban algunas obras para nosotros. El año pasado fue el primero y aprendimos sobre el saxofón con Darío.
Last year we started with a very interesting activity: students who were learning how to play an instrument in the Conservatory or Music schools explained us their instrument, how it worked and they performed some pieces of music for us. Last year was the first one and we learnt  about the sax with Darío. 


Este año vamos a empezar con un alumno autodidacta. Como podemos escuchar en su presentación, empezó a tocar la guitarra por su cuenta hace unos años. Aquí tenéis el vídeo donde explica sus comienzos con su instrumentos, cómo aprendió y nos interpreta un par de canciones.
This year, we are going to start with a self-taught student. As you can listen on his presentation, he started to play the guitar by himself a few years ago. Here you have the video where he explains his start with this instrument, how he learnt to play and he performs a couple of songs.











Como podéis ver, cualquiera puede aprender a tocar un instrumento siguiendo tutoriales de Youtube, libros on line, etc. Pero lo más importante es practicar y ser constante. ¿A qué estás esperando? Tú también puedes tocar un instrumento. Como siempre, vuestros comentarios son bienvenidos. :)
As you can see, anyone can learn to play an instrument with Youtube tutorials, books on line, etc. But the most important thing is to practice and to be constant. What are you waiting for? You can play an instrument too. As usual, you're welcome to comment. :)
 

La orquesta y un mando a distancia

De vez en cuando me gusta traeros vídeos musicales curiosos que encuentro en la red. A veces los conozco porque algún amigo me los recomienda y, otras, los encuentro por casualidad cuando navego por Internet. No recuerdo cómo encontré este, pero estoy segura de que os va a encantar. 
From time to time, I like to present you curious music videos that I see on the net. Sometimes I know them because a friend recommends them and another times I find them by chance when I'm surfing on the net. I don't remember how I found this one, but I'm sure you're gonna love it.



En este caso, tenemos un "Ciber director", es decir, una persona que usa un mando a distancia para controlar la orquesta y a su director. Es muy divertido y podemos ver el gran talento de los músicos que intervienen. Pueden ralentizar, acelerar, trasponer, etc. cuando el "Ciber director" lo requiere.
In this case, we have a "Cyber Conductor", meaning a person who uses a remote control to control an orchestra and its conductor. It is really funny and you can see how talented this musicians are. They can slow down, accelerate, transpose, etc. when the "Cyber Conductor" demands it.








Hay muchos ejemplos de humor en la música. Espero que, después de ver esto, tengáis una mente abierta acerca de las orquestas y la música en general. :) Os animo a dejar cualquier comentario que queráis.There are many examples of humour in Music. Los Oscar 2013 y la música

La pasada noche fue la noche de los Oscar. Como siempre, las celebridades más importantes de USA estaban allí disfrutando de la fiesta. Pero este año, había mucha música en los Oscar. El presentador la utilizó para presentar la noche de gala y, además, pudimos ver a Barbara Streisand interpretando, lo cual es poco usual pero magnífico.
Last night was the Oscar's night. As usual, the most important celebrities of USA were there, enjoying the party. But this year, there was much Music on the Oscars. The host used music to introduce the gala night and we could see Barbara Streisand performs, which is very rare but magnificent.





La música está muy presente en estos premios porque hay cuatro relacionados con ella: Edición de Sonido, Mezcla de Sonido, Música original y Canción original. La banda sonora de una película no es solo la música, sino que está formada por todos los sonidos y efectos que se pueden escuchar: desde un disparo a un accidente de coche o pájaros cantando... Si el sonido de una película no es bueno, probablemente saldrás del cine pensando: "No me ha gustado esta película porque no podía entender lo que decían los personajes". Es importante crear una buena atmósfera alrededor de las interpretaciones de los actores y actrices. Esa es la magia del cine. Sin música, ¡las películas serían tan diferentes!.
Music is very present in this awards because there are four related to it: Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Original Score and Original Song. The soundtrack of a film is not just the music. It's made of all the sounds and effects that you can listen to: from a gunshot to a car crash or birds singing... If the sound of a movie is not good, you'll probably will go out of the cinema thinking: "I didn't like this movie because I couldn't understand the characters while they were talking". It's important to create a good atmosphere around the performances of the actors and actresses. That's the magic of the cinema. Without music, movies would be so different!!.
