Felices Fiestas a todos

Aunque pretendo escribir algunas entradas durante las vacaciones (no he tenido tiempo durante el trimestre), quería desearos una Feliz Navidad y un Feliz año nuevo 2013 lleno de alegría, salud y cosas buenas en vuestras vidas. Me gustaría compartir con vosotros este bonito villancico llamado "O Holy Night", que fue compuesto por Adolphe Adam en 1847 basándose en el poema francés "Minuit, chrétiens". Más tarde, en 1855, John Sullivan Dwight, creó una edición cantada (bibliografía de wikipedia en el párrafo posterior).
Although I intend to write some pods during the Holidays (I haven't had time enough during the trimestre), I want to wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2013 full of joy, health and good things in your lives. I'd like to share with you this beautiful carol called "O Holy Night" which was composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847, to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens". Lately, in 1855,  John Sullivan Dwight, created a singing edition. (See Wikipedia info)

Me gusta particularmente esta versión que han hecho en la serie de televisión "Glee". La cantante, Lea Michele, tiene una voz preciosa, muy similar a la de Barbara Streisand. Creo que es una de las cantantes con más talento hoy en día.
I particularly enjoy this cover made by the TV show "Glee". The singer, Lea Michele, has a beautiful voice, very similar to Barbara Streisand's. I think she's one of the most talented singers today.

  

Y ahora, os voy a retar. Sabéis que la gente sorda tiene su propio lenguaje, el lenguaje de signos, que es distinto en cada país. Quiero que os aprendáis la canción "Call me maybe" en lenguaje de signos. Tenéis dos semanas para intentar hacerlo!! Empezad ya! :) Cuando lo hagamos en clase, seguro que lo pasaremos muy bien. Creo que es importante aprender nuevos lenguajes, y este es uno de ellos. :) El tutorial lo tenéis a continuación:

And now, I'm going to challenge you. You know that deaf people have their own language, sign language, different in each country. I want you to learn this song, "Call me maybe", with sign language. You have two weeks to try to do it!!. So, you can start right now!. When we do it in the classroom, I'm sure we'll have a good time. I think is important to learn new languages, and this is one of them. :)  The tutorial here:

Estas dos chicas tienen muchas canciones traducidas al lenguaje de signos y creo que están haciendo una gran labor ayudando a las personas con sordera a comprender la música que no pueden escuchar con los oídos. Les agradezco a ambas su trabajo :)

This two girls have many songs translated to sign language and I think they're doing a great job by helping deaf people understanding the music they can't listen. I thank both her work :)

 

Branle de las ratas

Una forma divertida de aprender Historia de la Música es bailando. También es una forma de profundizar en la cultura de un país. Hoy vamos a hablar del "Branle de las ratas". Esta es una danza típica de Morvan, un lugar rodeado de montañas en la zona de Borgoña (Francia). Esta región tiene una rica tradición musical y unos instrumentos muy interesantes.

An enjoyable way to learn Music History is by dancing. And it's a way to learn more about the culture of a country, too. Today we're going to talk about the "Rats' branle". This is a typical dance from Morvan, a place surrounded by mountains in the province of Bourgogne (France). This region has a very rich music tradition and very interesting instruments.

Una de las danzas más conocidas de Morvan es el "Branle de las Ratas". Se dice que se bailaba golpeando en el suelo para espantar las ratas, especialmente en los hogares de los recién casados. Se baila en dos líneas en la que los hombres se sitúan frente a las mujeres. El primer paso es el de la polka. Después, hay un cruce en diagonal. Los hombres tenían que quitarse el sombrero cada vez que se cruzaban con una mujer en este segundo paso. 

One of the most well-known dances of Morvan is the so called "Rats' Branle". It's told that it was danced to make rats go away, especially in "just-married" homes. It's danced in two lines, where women and men are one in front of the other. The first step is the polka's step. After that, there is a crossing in diagonal line. Men had to remove their hats, while they were performing this second step, everytime they crossed with a woman. 

Mis alumnos de 2º de Bachillerato bailaron este branle el otro día y creo que se divirtieron mucho. Tengo que agradecer a Begoña Rodríguez por la existencia de su blog Danzas del mundo, que es una inspiración para todos y que permite a los profesores de música, aprender nuevas danzas cada año. Gracias. 

My students of 2nd of Bachillerato were dancing this branle the other day and I think they had a good time. I have to thank Begoña Rodríguez for her blog Dances of the world , which is an inspiration for all and allows music's teachers learning new dances every year. Thank you.

"El avaro" de Moliére, según Verónica. La creatividad compositiva.

Como todos posiblemente sabéis, la Música se relaciona con muchas otras disciplinas, como la Literatura. Verónica, una de mis alumnas de 2º de Bachillerato, que era miembro del "Glee Club", tuvo que hacer un trabajo sobre "El avaro" de Moliére, y decidió escribir una canción.

As all of you may know, Music is related to many other disciplines like Literature. Verónica, one of my students of 2nd of Bachillerato, who was a member of the "Glee Club", had to do an essay about "The Miser", by Moliére and she decided to write a song. 

Le propuse que la cantara para todos en la clase puesto que, en la optativa de Música, hay gente de todas las ramas del Bachillerato y, por tanto, algunos no la habían escuchado, y accedió. Voy a enseñaros su increíble talento para componer e interpretar.

I proposed her to sing it for everyone in the class, considering that the elective subject of "Music", mixes people from different groups, and she agreed. I'm going to show you her incredible composing and performing talent.

Primer cumpleaños de "Música es vida"

Parece que fue ayer cuando volví del Congreso "Con Euterpe", maravillada por todas las cosas nuevas que había aprendido y por la gente estupenda que había conocido. Estaba tan emocionada que decidí crear un blog, y así es como nació "Música es vida". Hoy es el primer aniversario del blog.

It seems like yesterday when I came back from the Congress "Con Euterpe" amazed by all the new things I had learnt, and all the great people I had met. I was so excited that I decided to create a blog and that's how "Music is life" was born. So today it's the blog's first anniversary.

Ahora, un año después, tengo un poco más de experiencia y mucho más que aprender. Todos los días hablo con grandes profesores que me inspiran a través de Twitter, por mail y por teléfono y algunos de ellos se han convertido en amigos. Me siento orgullosa de decir que este viaje no sólo ha sido de conocimientos, sino también de crecimiento personal.

Now, a year later, I have a little bit more of experience, and much more to learn. Everyday I talk to great teachers who inspire me through Twitter, by mail, by phone and some of them have become my friends. I'm proud to say that this trip has been not only about knowledge, but about personal growth too. 

El 30 de Noviembre tuve el honor de participar en la página web "Red de Buenas Prácticas 2.0"  hablando de mi blog. Francisco Muñoz de la Peña contactó conmigo en septiembre y me preguntó si quería participar escribiendo sobre mi experiencia con el mundo de las TIC y dije que sí. Estaba emocionada de que hubiera pensado en mí y de que me hubiera dado esa oportunidad. Quiero agradecerle eso. ¡¡Gracias Paco!!

The 30th of November I had the honor of participating on the website "Red de Buenas Prácticas 2.0" by talking about my blog. Francisco Muñoz de la Peña contacted me in September to ask me if I wanted to participate by writting about my experience with the TIC's world and I said yes. I was really excited that he had thought of me and he had given me that opportunity. I want to thank him for that. Thanks, Paco!!.

Quiero celebrar este primer cumpleaños con todos mis amigos, seguidores, alumnos y profesionales que han hecho posible este proyecto. Danza grabada y danza en directo

Usualmente hago entradas sobre danza y música y os hablo de diferentes temas. hoy no voy a hacer eso. Voy a cambiar el enfoque. Voy a mostraros dos vídeos: misma canción, misma artista, diferente escenario.

I usually do podcasts about dance and music and I talk to you about different issues. Today I'm not doing that. I'm going to change the approach. I'm going to show you two videos: same song, same artist, different scenario.

Primero: Este vídeo se rodó durante varios días y está retocado y perfeccionado.

First one: This is a video filmed in several days and retouched.

Segundo: Una interpretación en vivo en los "American Music Awards 2012".
Second one: A live performance of the same artist on the American Music Awards 2012.

Esta vez vais a ser vosotros los que realicéis el análisis considerando:
 1.- Las diferencias entre la música en vivo y la grabada.
 2.- Las diferencias entre la interpretación de la danza en ambos vídeos.
 3.- ¿Cuál de los dos os gusta más y por qué motivo?
 4.- ¿Está la danza bien adaptada a la música? ¿Por qué?
This time you're the one who's going to do the analysis considering:

 1.- Differences between live music and recorded.

 2.- The same about the dance performance.

 3.- Which one do you like the most and why?

 4.- Is the dance performance well adapted to the music? Why?

Podéis centraros en cualquiera de las cuatro preguntas (especificadlo, por favor). Espero vuestras contribuciones en los comentarios. :) Como siempre, tendréis reconocimiento a vuestro trabajo.
